 Miss Funkyflyy's Lionel Richie Interview
What happened to the Commodores was that when we had an album do, everybody would bring an uptempo song to the group, so I figured out an easy way to get a song on the album.
Milan Williams, the keyboard player for the Commodores, he wrote that song and he is, or was, a CB fanatic.
So it guaranteed that my song got on the album.

From that point on, it seemed like every Commodores song was an easy-listening ballad, as their rare funk excursions were buried on LPs.
The Commodores began on the campus of the Tuskeegee Institute in the late 60s, mainly as a way to meet girls.
Better still, the Commodores were starting to get a taste of pop recognition as the singles "Just To Be Close To You" and "Sweet Love" both went top 10.

The forceful punk-alternative vibe on “Digging The Grave” makes for a catchy song with a darker tone, and “Easy” is a flawless cover of the Commodores’ RandB hit.
Mike Patton& vocal talent stands in contrast to Mosley’s rawer sound, as is evident on the polished “Ashes To Ashes,” while “Be Aggressive” is an amusing song with cheerleading choruses and a discordant feel that is representative of the Angel Dust album.
The track titled “Anne's Song” is a good choice from Faith No More’s earlier music (with Chuck Mosley on vocals) and it may surprise newer fans by how different the vocals sound.

The Commodores became established as one of America's most popular soul group of the 70's, and Richie was responsible for writing and singing many of their biggest hits, specializing in romantic, easy-listening ballads such as "Easy", "Three Times A Lady", and "Still".
Several more Top 10 hits followed, the most successful of which was "Hello", a sentimental love song that showed how far Richie had moved from his RandB roots.
They had several hits such as Easy, Three Times A Lady, and Brick House.

Ben Mauro: 'Dancing On The Ceiling' in Lionel Ritchie’s band
I use the Les Paul for “Easy,” another song with a famous guitar solo, and for “Dancing On The Ceiling,” which is one of Lionel’s major hits and when we play it live, we really rock it out.
We’ll be doing a U.S. tour in the fall where we’ll be playing a lot of Lionel’s old Commodores music and material from his new album.
In Lionel’s set, there are a lot of jazzy pieces and the 335 works perfectly for that.
