The Easybeats - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Easybeats were a rock and roll band in the 1960s from Australia.
The London version produced by Simon Napier-Bell was actually recorded in the very same studio (IBC studios in Portland Place) that the Easybeats' had made the original in.
The Easybeats disbanded without fanfare at the end of 1969, following a low-key farewell Australian tour.

Harry Vanda - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Born Johannes Jacob Hendrickus Vandenberg, on 22 March 1947, in The Hague, The Netherlands, his family migrated to Australia in the early 1960s and settled in Sydney.
In 1966 he began a successful and enduring writing partnership with rhythm guitarist George Young; together they penned all of The Easybeats' late Sixties recordings, including their only major international hit, "Friday On My Mind".
Vanda's first wife, Pam, committed suicide in mid-1966, only days before the group were due to leave for an extended visit to England, and Vanda was forced to leave his infant son in the care of his family in the Netherlands.

MILESAGO - Groups & Solo Artists - The Easybeats
The history of the Easybeats has been recounted in detail by rock historian Glenn A. Baker, and I must acknowledge his liner notes for the LP version of The Easybeats: Absolute Anthology, which are the primary source for this essay.
The origin of The Easybeats was at the Villawood Migrant Hostel, in Sydney's south-western suburbs.
After a brief panic, the Easybeats were smuggled out an emergency exit into a catering van and driven to the end of the runway, where they hid for half an hour until they rejoined the plane.

The Easybeats were the best group of the Sixties the rest of the world didn't hear (until later).
Legend has it that the Beatles' Paul McCartney was driving along a freeway when he heard the Easybeats' song on the radio and just had to stop and ring up the station to find out whose record it was.
The stage was set for the Easybeats' world domination, but their talent was about to be overpowered and dragged under by two other forces, Stevie Wright's drift into drug dependency, and their manager Mike Vaughan finding himself out of depth.

 VH1.com : The Easybeats : Biography
The Easybeats, however, were no longer as exciting a group to listen to or see, when they actually did perform.
By mid-1969, the band had receded to a mere shadow of itself, and their music had regressed to a form of good-time singalong music, similar to the work of the Tremeloes, pleasant enough but nothing like the kind of work they'd been generation just two years before.
Meanwhile, the Easybeats' complete output has been issued on CD through the Repertoire label (making their 1965-1966 Australian sides widely available around the world for the first time), and anthologies of their work are in print in England and America.

Whats striking is how 40 years after it was recorded and released, it sounds as fresh and vital as ever, more so than many of the songs that accompanied it in the charts at the time.
All of them ended up in Australia thanks to their families emigrating there and they all met at a youth hostel in 1963 and formed The Easybeats, the name taken from a BBC radio show that was popular at the time called, ”Easy Beat”.
We will return to The Easybeats sometime in the future which will cover the rest of their story.

Magic In The Air - Easybeats
Friday On My Mind let the Easybeats move on with confidence and resulted in spending most of 1967 and 68 in the studio, creating some of those years most ambitious work—which is no understatement.
They tried their hand with all types of musical styles, from good old rock n' roll (Good Times) to psych pop (Land Of Make Believe), all the while finding new beats, melodies and guitar styles not heard in pop music before.
Featuring 15 tracks from sessions dating from 1967-68, it shows the Easybeats should have been destined for greater things, but in similar style to the Kinks work of the same time, appreciation came much too late.

The Easybeats MP3 Downloads - The Easybeats Music Downloads - The Easybeats Music Videos
The Easybeats recorded extremely prolifically during their five-year career, and this gathers about a dozen unreleased tracks, a few stray cuts that ended up on fairly rare LPs or EPs, and three (yes, three) Coke jingles.
The best of these offerings are six demos from early 1965; all originals, they show the band at their most British Invasion-influenced and have a mawkish, innocent charm, though they're hardly classic.
The rest of the material is typical mid- to late-period Easybeats: extremely clever insofar as quirky songwriting and guitar playing, cheerful almost to the point of being grating, and not nearly as lasting or important as their obvious reference points (the Beatles, Kinks, Who, and Small Faces).

ormed in Sydney Australia in 1963, The Easybeats, whose members emigrated to Australia with their families from the U.K. and Holland, established themselves (along with The Bee Gees) as Australia's leading pop/rock band.
Vocalist Steve Wright, guitarist George Young and drummer Gordon Fleet (formerly of The Mojos) were all originally from the U.K., as guitarist Harry Vanda and bassist Dick Diamonde hailed from Holland.
The Easybeats would release their first U.K. hit with Friday On My Mind (the tune would be one in a few that would capture the epitome of early psychedelia (Gary Moore would record a raucious version of it 20 years later).
