The limestone cliffs are home to several endemic animal species including the mongoose (Galidictis grandidieri) and a blind cave-dwelling fish (Typhleotris madagascariensis) This area constitutes also a restricted distribution zone for the nocturnal gecko (Ebenavia maintimainty) as well as for the skink (Mabuya vezo).
The Mahafaly Plateau area, as well as Cap Saint Marie on the southern tip of the island, are known for pronounced dwarf vegetation.
There are 8 bird species endemic to the ecoregion and an additional 2 bird species that live only on the western drier side of the island (Nicoll and Langrand 1989, Stattersfield et al.

 Reptiles
The introduced reptilian fauna include a few Elephantine tortoises form Aldabra, house lizards like Geckos from Madagascar (Hemidactylus mabouia) or from India (Gehyeria mutilata), (Hemiphyllodactylus typus).
Outdoor lizards include the Ebenavia inunguis from Madagascar and the Chameleon Calotes versicolor from Java.
Two types of snakes were accidentally introduced from India, the Blind Indian Snake (Typhlina bramina) and the Wolf Snake (Lycodon aulicum), locally known as Couleuvre.

 [gecko] Ebenavia and Phyllodactylus peringueyi
I read the paper Revision of the genus Ebenavia Boetteger (Reptilia:Squamata:Gekkonidae) today.
In this, Raxworthy and Nussabaum give rise to the possibillity of extended the genus Ebenavia into mainland Africa if P. peringueyi were to be included in the genus.
Furthermore, they also state that claws are indeed present in both Ebenavia species on the hind limbs of females.

I have not read the Herpetologica article on Ebenavia so I won't comment on that but I think that the convergence of natural history and behavior between C. peringueyi and E.

 Terrestrial Ecoregions -- Madagascar lowland forests (AT0117)
As an illustration, the following chameleon and dwarf chameleon forms are restricted to this ecoregion: Calumma gallus, C. cucullata, C. furcifer balteatus, Furcifer bifidus, Brookesia superciliaris, and B.
The ecoregion holds an assortment of locally endemic geckos: Paroedura masobe, Ebenavia inunguis, Matoatoa sparinnghi, Phelsuma antanosy, P. serraticauda, P. masohoala, P. flavigularis, Microscalabotes bivittis, Uroplatus lineatus, U. malama, and Homopholis antongilensis.
A large number of skinks are only found in the ecoregion, such as Amphiglosssus astrolabi and A. frontoprarietalis.
