Eccles' testimony before the committee included his usual ideas, which fairly could be regarded as Keynesian, on having the federal government incur a budget deficit deliberately in order to provide fiscal stimulus to the economy.
Eccles was skeptical regarding the viability and theoretical soundness of the NRA, believing that it tended to promote monopolistic practices (price cartels) and did little to relieve the suffering of the unemployed.
Eccles and Currie dragged the Board away from the corporatist world view (which might have perished even without their intervention because of the general disrepute into which the NRA was sliding by the time they arrived at the Board) and toward what one of my colleagues has termed "a Keynesian aggregate interventionist sensibility" instead.

The history behind (and recipe for) Eccles Cakes
In the middle ages an annual service 'Eccles Wakes' took place at the church in Eccles and afterwards there was a fair at which food and drink were sold, including of course, Eccles cakes.
In 1650, when the Puritans gained power, they banned the Eccles Wakes and subsequently the Eccles cakes which they considered to have pagan significance due to their juicy and exotic richness.
The fact that Eccles cakes were being exported by 1818 also suggests very good keeping qualities, so they may well have included spirits such as brandy and rum.
