	Julian Cope Presents Head Heritage \| Unsung \| The Book of Seth \| Primal Scream - Echo Dek
		A slowed voice sneaks in towards the end with lurking intent and the combination of it all over the brashly rendered drums and percussion is some of the most imbalanced and disoriented dub produced in the nineties.
		Aircraft FX swoop down amidst the dub clatter of echoed drums as that chillingly inhuman and repeatedly pressed queue bell is darkly reprised.
		Fragments of the former track go flying by with extremely uncalled-for echo abuse that turns “Wise Blood” into a place where every sounds seems to be either delayed or decayed...and that includes the drums, leaving the double bass/distorted-synth signal as the only element to keep things on course.

	Primal Scream - Echo Dek - Review - Stylus Magazine
		Vanishing Point wasn't exactly Bobby Gillespie's album - his vocal contributions have become less and less regular on their albums over time - so it's quite interesting to see a remix album based purely on the instrumental tracks of its source material.
		Echo Dek definitely pulls it off, adding careful layers of deep bass, carefully constructed echos and powerful drum-crashes to the already dense sounds.
		It actually appears to be a slightly more cohesive album than the original - due to the common theme of the remix approach (and the original's eclecticness) and certainly doesn't out wear it's welcome at a tidy 7 tracks over 44 minutes.

		'Echo Dek' is flat in comparison: remix experiments like these might not be meant to compete with the originals but there's no doubt which version the 'Scream completist will play the most.
		'First Name Unknown' ('Kowalski' dipped in echo effects) is listless, while the stuttering drums of 'Last Train' are little advance on the original 'Trainspotting'.
		But, Sherwood does improve the original album's weak link - 'Dub In Vain' puts a bomb under 'Medication' - and there are moments when he extrapolates the dub core of 'Vanishing Point' beautifully: 'Revolutionary', for example, spins 'Star' out until it glides on a delicate blend of melodica and brass.

		About a year after that release hit, they dropped Echo Dek, an import-only release of dubbed-out versions of tracks on Vanishing Point.
		Because that album already had some of the elements in place, one might wonder just what the group was hoping to accomplish, or in what directions they could even move with such an album, but it turns out that there were still several routes to explore.
		The exploration of them, though, was something that was hit-or-miss and the 9 tracks on Echo Dek (remixed from 8 tracks) show that while some tracks were meant to be messed with, some were fine as they were.
