Bordering the park are the cathedral of the Episcopalian diocese of Los Angeles and the famous Angelus Temple, a large Foursquare Gospel church built by Canadian-born Pentecostal evangelist Aimee Semple McPherson in 1923.
Echo Park was home to the Metropolitan Street Hockey League (MSHL) from 1971 until 1977, one of the first organized street hockey and roller hockey associations in the Los Angeles area, and which produced the Preston Sharks, winners of the street hockey city championship in 1974, 1975 and 1976.
Echo Park is and continues to be home to the world famous, Echo Park Ducks, originally formed in 1967 as a loosely organized social, sports and community activist club, and which attracted many of the hippies and free spirits of the area at the time.

Between radio transmissions and helicopters and planes, the airspace over Echo Park has been a busy place for a long time, even though police activity has been quieter in the last couple of years: the spotlight searches that used to be commonplace, until a year or two ago, have become infrequent.
Not on the tour: The smallest Echo park home I know of is on a stair street and is about two hundred-some square feet; not surprisingly, it recently rented to a young woman relocating from New York City.

She is a female wolf, 13 years of age, who was born at Wolf Park to Akili and Vega in 1992.

Glen Echo began in 1889 when two brothers, Edwin and Edward Baltzley, purchased land along the Potomac River from Cabin John Creek in Maryland to the Walhonding Road area and named it Glen-Echo-on-the-Potomac.
When the house was donated to the National Park Service in 1975, it became the first site in the National Park system to be dedicated to the memory of a woman.
Glen Echo Park was transferred to the US government on April 1, 1970 in a land exchange with Rekab, Inc. It eventually became part of the Department of Interior, administered by the National Park Service.

The carousel and organ were donated to the National Park Service with the understanding that they would remain at Glen Echo Park and be operated for public enjoyment.
