 Light Echoes from ancient SN
Light Echoes from ancient SN In recent years, light echoes have been discovered around some nearby extragalactic supernovae well after the explosion, most notably the light echoes from Supernova 87A (SN 87A).
The difference images removed all the static artifacts (stars and nebulae) and only variable objects such as variable stars and echoes remain in the data.
Besides the well known echoes from SN 87A we found three further light echo groups that are not associated with SN 87A.

U.S. Patent: 5539311 - Method for reducing artifacts in magnetic resonance imaging - July 23, 1996
In magnetic resonance imaging, a first echo train is obtained by applying a readout gradient magnetic field to a region of interest to be imaged and periodically inverting the polarity of the readout gradient magnetic field, without applying an encoding gradient magnetic field to the region of interest.
A second echo train is obtained by applying a readout gradient magnetic field and an encoding magnetic field to the region of interest and periodically inverting the polarity of the readout gradient magnetic field.
Conventionally, in a single echo measurement which is represented by the spin-warp method, the phase of an echo may be shifted under the influence of a phase shift caused by characteristics of the apparatus.

Artifacts are echoes that appear on the image that do not correspond in location or intensity to actual interfaces in the patient.
The assumption is that all returning echoes come from interfaces in the direction that the sound beam was pointing and at a distance corresponding to the time of flight between the transducer and the interface.
All of the returning echoes are presumed to arise from the center of the sound beam and are, therefore, displayed along the central vector representing the beam.

Echo Bridge was subsequently issued in the U.S. by Renaissance Records.

Some times a mirror image artifact (see next section) can cause a similar appearance so that the depth of the deep wall of the cyst may not be the same as the distance from the transducer to the rectal air.
The echoes that travel through the lesion arrive at the transducer with some delay, and are assigned in a deeper position, creating an appearance of a "break" in the structures located posteriorly to the lesion, diaphragm or even the kidney.
Note that the slightly curved echo imitating the interface between the subcapsular hematoma and the renal parenchyma is caused by the slightly less curved line halfway back to the transducer representing an interface between that and abdominal wall musculature.

According to theory, the noise performance of any water-fat separation method is dependent on the proportion of water and fat within a voxel, and the position of echoes relative to the SE.
Theoretical calculations predict that the optimal echo combination occurs when the relative phase of the echoes is separated by 2pi/3, with the middle echo centered at pi/2+pik (k = any integer), i.e., (-pi/6+pik, pi/2+pik, 7pi/6+pik).
Only with these echo combinations can noise performance reach the maximum possible and be independent of the proportion of water and fat.
