	Army ant - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
		The most predominant species of Eciton is Eciton burchelli, whose common name is army ant and which is considered to be the archetypal species.
		Eciton burchelli and Eciton hamatum are the most visible and best studied of the New World army ants because they forage above ground and during the day.
		Eciton army ants have a bi-phasic lifestyle where they alternate between a nomadic phase and a stationary stage.

		While some of the species will actively raid and forage under a variety of conditions, most other species appear to restrict their activity to periods of darkness or under heavy cover and are rarely encountered in the open.
		The species of Eciton as currently recognized are reasonably easy to identify, although ease of identification is dependent to some extent on having majors available, as the smaller workers in many cases do bear a great deal of resemblance to each other.
		The reason for this is that the genitalia of Eciton males are remarkably uniform and show few useful characters or variation, while the mandibles for each species are very distinctive.

		Eciton may have a weird name, but for a debut album "Oppressed" is one Hell of an impressive onslaught of some killer old-school Death Metal.
		Hearkening back to the riff-intensive style of Death or a less-frenetic Deicide, Eciton's only nod to a modern sound is the odd melodic flourish they throw into the mix, but otherwise this sounds like a 1990 album with a modern production.
		Like other old-stylers such as Unholy Ghost and Poland's Mutilation, Eciton ride no trends at all, they just play Death Metal the fast, brutal, ugly way it should be played.

		Eciton are doing all things correctly, without being that sensational.
		All the songs are in the same vein (so if you like one, you will like all).

		We do not know anything about the life history of this unusual species, which is known only from a single female specimen.
		The wingless females are found in the raids of the ant Eciton burchelli, but although they have a piercing, parasitic-type ovipositor, their hosts are unknown.
		This species, known from a single female, was collected with a column of the army ant Eciton hamatum at La Selva.

		Eciton is the winner of a Danish Death Metal contest but they are above all the last signature of the French label Adipocere Records.
		This first album of Eciton is a bit average.

		Indespair also decided to change their name to Eciton after the line-up change.

		Despite the fact that the promotional literature called Eciton melodic death metal, one would be hard pressed to find much melody here.
		Eciton play straight up brutal, thrashing, technical death metal.
		Most death metal pretty much sounds the same to me, so I can’t speak for originality, but these guys are very good at what they do.

		Many years ago on a well-known island/research station in Central America, a prominent myrmecologist collected the queen from a colony of the army ant species Eciton lucanoides.
		Unfortunately this was done after the production of a worker brood not a sexual brood, and since the collecting event E. lucanoides, a little-known variation from the infamous insect E. burchelli, has not been seen on the island.
