Last May, Canada Economic Development (CED) for Quebec regions was invited to appear for the first time before the Standing Joint Committee on Official Languages.
Gladu's view, CED has good reason overall to be proud of the results achieved in the area of minority-language community development; he said, however, that the agency will continue its work to promote realization of projects in the Anglophone community and induce it to participate fully in the growth of Quebec's regions.
The Deputy Minister assured the Committee that the agency will continue to work closely with representatives of Quebec's Anglophone community to more accurately identify their expectations, especially in the changing context of globalization.

However, I am happy to see that she thinks that having a regional development agency for Atlantic Canada is a good decision taken by the Conservatives because Canada is becoming more and more a country of economic regions where the market trends are more and more south-north and north-south than east-west.
I would like to conclude by saying that the urban region of Quebec City has not done too badly, in the end, but the problem we see in the outlying regions of Bellechasse, Portneuf and Charlevoix is the same as in the Lower St. Lawrence and the Gaspé Peninsula.
We see unemployment, regions that are stagnant, populations that are not growing and, most of all, we also see, and that is dramatic, young people who are leaving their region.
