Economics - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
See political economy for the study of economics in the context of political science, and socioeconomics for the study of economics in the context of sociology.
The term political economy was used through the 18th and 19th centuries, with Adam Smith, David Ricardo and Karl Marx as its main thinkers and which today is frequently referred to as the "classical" economic theory.
Both "economy" and "economics" are derived from the Greek oikos- for "house" or "settlement", and nomos for "laws" or "norms".

PEOPLE For Mathematically Perfected Economy¬ô — HOME of Mathematically Perfected Economy
Mathematically perfected economy is a SINGULAR prescription for true economy and full, unobstructed prosperity, without inflation; without deflation; without subversion of the value or cost of money or property; and without inherent, irreversible multiplication of debt in proportion to the circulation, or commerce which can be sustained by it.
Mathematically perfected economy therefore is both vital to real freedom, and a singular prescription for true economy and economic justice.
The question to be answered eternally is whether an economy should be a system providing for unjust profit — or whether an economy should provide only for its subjects to exchange their production equitably.

Maybe it's not the economy, stupid - Sep. 26, 2003
The economy may not be as much of a problem for Bush 43 as it was for Bush 41, some economists say.
What's more, the consensus view of the economy's path seems to favor Bush, with economists in the latest Philadelphia Federal Reserve survey expecting GDP growth to average at least 3.7 percent in 2004, following two quarters of expected strong growth at the end of 2003.
But he suggested that, if the economy grows at or near a 4 percent rate in 2004, then the unemployment rate is unlikely to get any worse, which could be fairly neutral for Bush.

 Welcome to the Netherlands
As an open economy, the Netherlands is susceptible to international developments, notably in recent years the global recession – which has been exacerbated by falling share prices, the attacks of 11 September 2001, the war in Iraq and the outbreak of SARS.
But the Netherlands’ emissions of carbon dioxide have increased in recent years, mainly because the export-driven Dutch oil, transport and chemical industries are all such voracious consumers of energy.
Given the Dutch economy’s strong focus on exports, acting nationally to cut greenhouse gas emissions is more expensive than acting internationally.

Although Americans’ views of the state of the economy are more positive than they were a month ago, almost a quarter of Americans have had a personal experience with economic woes, and report that someone in their household has lost a job in the last year.
Americans who think the economy is good tend to say that Bush has had only a little to do with it, while a majority of those who say the economy is in bad shape believe the country’s economic troubles have a lot to do with the President.
Similarly, those who think the economy is getting better tend to think Bush’s policies have had a little impact on the economy; but two out of three of those who believe the economy is getting worse say economic conditions have a lot to do with Bush’s policies.

 Salon.com Technology | Bush's shaky hand
And suddenly, after months of bad-mouthing the economy and claiming that the '90s boom had nothing to do with Clinton administration policies and everything to do with entrepreneurialism, George W. Bush and his aides find themselves in the unlikely position of having to admit that "good public policy" may be necessary to avoid a recession.
And it's very easy, and not at all unjustified, to lambaste the new economy leaders, especially the frothy dot-com start-ups that popped up in the late '90s, for their excesses and poor fundamentals -- including, all too often, their inability to turn a profit.
And instead of a plan that puts most real dollar gains in the hands of the wealthy, who are the least likely people to run out and spend their refunds, the best stimulus for our flagging economy would be a tax cut for the poor and working class, the people who would spend it immediately.

 Rousseau: Political Economy
word Economy, or OEconomy, is derived from oikos, a house, and nomos, law, and meant originally only the wise and legitimate government of the house for the common good of the whole family.
That question indeed has long been decided one way in theory, and another in practice; and in general it would be ridiculous to expect that those who are in fact masters will prefer any other interest to their own.
