In 1973, horticulture comprised 36% of the export-sector contribution to the economy of Guernsey.
The percentage contribution of industry to the export economy had already dropped to a figure of around 10% in 1988 and this fell further, to a low of 7%, in 1993.
This dip coincided with falls in the contributions to the export economy of horticulture, industry and tourism and a small fall in the contribution from the rentier sector, despite the fact that the financial services sector was increasing its contribution strongly in percentage terms during this period.
