		In general the economy of the Republic was much weaker than that of the North throughout the 20th century, with the situation only reversing due to the Troubles in Northern Ireland, and the Celtic Tiger era in the Republic.
		The economy felt the impact of the global economic slowdown in 2001, particularly in the high-tech export sector – the growth rate in that area was cut by nearly half.

		Agreed that their is a severe problem with the health service in Ireland ("The Eleven Kingdoms") but it is important that it should not outweight an article on the economy.
		I personally would have preferred a real Economy of Ireland article: all the island from early modern period on.
		But economy is more than industry, and the article does not go into depth on the agricultural economy of the time.

		I believe the German economy is still the third largest in the world.
		Ireland is(was?) at the forefront of the international race to the bottom of attracting the rich, and corporations, by corporate taxes.
		I also find it amusing that Friedman compares Ireland's ephemeral progress (changing tax rates to attract the rich is not something which can either be much repeated, nor can it be exported) to Leprechauns, and France to the Louvre.
