Lisbon - The three-week European football finals currently underway in Portugal will have only a limited impact on the economy despite bringing thousands of visitors to the country, a finance ministry study released on Thursday concluded.
These extra visitors will spend an average of four nights in Portugal, compared to just 1.8 nights spent by visitors to Belgium and the Netherlands during the last European finals in 2000.
The study said football fans would spend a longer time in the Euro host nation this year because of the lower accommodation costs charged in Portugal and its location on the western edge of Europe which makes it harder to reach.
