It is likely that he would have known Ecthelion II, the son of the Steward, since Thengel was still the heir to the throne in Rohan even though he had abandoned his father's court.
Morwen would have been 93 at that time, and the people of Gondor seem to be long-lived (Ecthelion II was 98 when he died in 2984).
If she did live into her 80s, it can be conjectured that she would have had an influence on Théodred since Théoden did not remarry, though it is also likely that his three aunts would also have stepped in to help raise him unless when they married they moved away from Edoras.

In Gondor's time of need, a new hero arose, and for a time Steward Ecthelion II (who had recently succeeded his father Turgon) was served by the mysterious captain Thorongil (who was long afterwards discovered to be none other than Aragorn of the Northern Dúnedain).
Denethor II ruled as Steward for thirty-five years, and was succeeded by his younger son Faramir.
It was common practice for members of the House of Húrin to take the names of ancient heroes, so it seems more likely that Denethor II, and his ancestor Denethor I, were named after this ancient Denethor, rather than being lithe and lank themselves.

Denethor bio   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-11-05)
When Denethor was a young man, there was a captain in his father's army that men called Thorongil, meaning "Eagle of the Star." The captain had earned the nickname because of his eyes which were keen as an eagle's, and a silver star he wore upon his cloak.
Ecthelion, Denethor's father, favored this captain greatly, and although Thorongil himself did not vie with Denethor for Ecthelion's favor, Denethor nonetheless became jealous.
Thorongil (Aragorn) was a friend of Gandalf the Grey, and counselled Ecthelion to welcome the wizard, but Denethor suspected that Gandalf was in league with Thorongil and planned to supplant him.

He paces in the cool room, chainmail sleeves clanking irritably with the unusual heaviness in his step, and Denethor is inable to even open the book that will doubtless confirm all his fears that Theodred put in his heart; he failed his last battle.
