ED BRUBAKER: My editor, Matt Idelson, called me up one day and I thought we were just talking, about the various Bat-titles and stuff, and suddenly our talk centered on Catwoman, and I got to saying what they should do with her.
ED BRUBAKER: I hope it's not all that different, in some ways, because I don't want people to think I just threw out everything that came before, but I think the main difference is that I've attempted to give Selina more of a mission than just doing whatever she wants, and being a thief.
ED BRUBAKER: Well, Catwoman's got such a convoluted history, that when setting out to really tackle the book, and redefine her character, you have to sift through a lot of it and pick the stuff that you like, and that works well together.

 Gotham Central - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Gotham Central is a comic book series that was published by DC Comics and written by Ed Brubaker and Greg Rucka, with pencils initially by Michael Lark.
When writers Greg Rucka and Ed Brubaker collaborated on the "Officer Down" Batman crossover, they knew their next project would have to be about the police in Gotham City.
Ultimately Lark and Brubaker moved on to other projects, and, after three years of publication, it was announced that the series was ending amid the Infinite Crisis aftermath.

 CA v5 #5 Review
I am one Captain America fan who won't stand in the line to castigate Brubaker this re-characterization; World War II (and for that matter, any war) was a dirty, mean business, and the lines were not as fl and white as the history books claimed.
Brubaker is giving us a Captain America who is showing us the terrible pragmatism of warfare.
In many ways, Brubaker is being true to the updating of Bucky's role that Nicieza started and Waid continued - Captain America as the idealist, Bucky as the smooth operator, the expediter, the guy with the street smarts.

As Ed stated, Marvel offered him a great deal, and since he likes to occassionally feed his family and put a roof over their heads he considered it and thought it was great.
Ed has also stated that DC had already made their big plans for 2005 and beyond and he wasn't a big part of them.

For those who only know Ed Brubaker as the writer of Batman and Catwoman, you're in for a surprise.
While some of the circumstances in the book may seem a little extreme to the casual observer, Brubaker's inherent suggestion that aimlessness leads to horrible decision-making is right on the money.
Brubaker will undoubtedly get more popular as he continues to do fantastic work on the Batman titles.

09-19-2002 10:22 AM If you want to chec out some great Brubaker try to hunt down his indie series, "Lowlife." I know a guy who knows Ed Brubaker and some of the Lowlife stories are pretty close to real life.
Interestingly enough, Brubaker says David Goyer is going to direct the film adaptation.
I talked to Brubaker at the San Diego Con for a while, and he is really an incredibly nice guy.

I'm not sure if he knows this, but Ed Brubaker was one of the first comic creators I ever interviewed.
BRUBAKER: Yeah, pretty much that's how it is, you either have a clear idea of how to tackle it, or you're fucked.
This was my favorite comic as a kid, but it was also one that I was very disappointed in much of the time, and wished would have done longer storylines much of the time, or been able to keep an artist longer, stuff like that.

I give this bathroom tome a B. Cliff Biggers: Brubaker is a master of the comic book form as an intensely personal art form; his work is both visually apealing and thought-provoking, dealing with troubled characters and their troubling lives in an existential, sometimes nihilistic way.
Grade: B. Tom Lawton: In spite of what the press release says about this being the story of one man's struggle to cling to his moral standards, it becomes clear that this man's high morals are merely convenient excuses for his own hatred and intolerance.
As each imagined slight piles up, Ed Brubaker's protagonist moves further and further into his isolation.

No longer relying on big-breasted, cheesecake art to draw fanboy attention, Brubaker and Cooke have instead crafted a mature, believable (and naturally proportioned) female character that you wouldn't be ashamed to show your wife or girlfriend.
Ed Brubaker has made Catwoman interesting by giving her a purpose and exploring some of the darker aspects of Gotham City.
