When The Sheik's Big Time Wrestling promotion in Detroit closed up shop in Dec 1980 I know he continued to be billed as U.S. champ in Poffo's ICW and I think George Cannon's Superstars of Wrestling.
Many have speculated that the reason that Sabu got fired from WCW following Havoc is because the Sheik threw a fireball at Jerry Lynn after the match, this during the "non-violence" days of WCW.
I did realize that Farhat continued to be an active wrestler right up until the mid 90's.

From what I saw, the death of Ed Farhat was more publicized than Curt Hennig's.
I read about the Sheik's accomplishments in many major newspapers (at the library), yet the only thing I saw on Hennig (outside of wrestling news) was a note on the bottom of the screen on CNN.

The Detroit territory has been a fixture in wrestling's history dating back to sometime in the 1920's when it was run by Nick Londos and Adam Weissmueller.
The promotion changed hands several times through the years finally ending up in the hands of The Original Sheik, Ed Farhat.
Throughout the late 60's, 70's and until the promotion's demise in 1980, this hotbed of pro wrestling action has ingrained itself into the minds of many wrestling fans, and KM is proud to finally be able to present it on the main site.
