  Old-Time Fiddlers Hall of Fame - Ed Haley
James Edward "Ed" Haley was born in 1883 on Hart's Creek in Logan County, West Virginia.
Haley, who was a blind professional fiddler, never recorded commercially during his lifetime; he was afraid that the record companies would take advantage of a blind man. However, there were recordings made by Haley's son Ralph on a home disc-cutting machine.
Haley, who was often accompanied by his wife Martha, who was also blind and played mandolin, traveled to fiddle contests and small towns throughout West Virginia and Kentucky.

Alex Haley was born in Ithaca, New York, as the son of Simon Alexander Haley, a teacher, and the former Bertha George Palmer, also a teacher; she died when Alex was 10 and his father remarried two years later.
Haley's third wife was the former Myra Lewis of Los Angeles.

The CDs, by the way, are Ed Haley - Forked Deer (Rounder 1131/32) and Ed Haley - Grey Eagle (Rounder 1133/34).
The recording quality is bad to horrible, due to the nature of the recording process used and the physical condition of the media, but listen to them with the ear of a musician.
