There are so many evidences, and inferences, as to Eddie not being “there” that I will let the viewer discover them on their own, and discuss later, and believe me, you will be talking about this movie, if you have patience, and let it seep its way slowly inside you.
This was obviously a role written to be the antithesis of Crane, and given the most color of any character in the film, hence it could have easily been overdone, or hammed up by the wrong actor.

Eddie's favourite toy is his Barbie doll, which he found in the park one day (Ep "Burying A Grudge).

During the late 80's, Uncle Eddie began to suffer from senility and he would wander off from the nursing home only to be found wandering somewhere by the police.
I know now that it is too late to talk with Uncle Eddie about his experinces during the war, but having his things gives me some pride in knowing that my family helped serve in the armed forces for America.
