ON THE EDGE WITH EDDIE JOBSON
Eddie Jobson is a man with parallel careers — art rock progenitor, contemporary instrumental forerunner, world music adventurer and cutting-edge television composer.
Inspired by the global village that modern technology was helping to build, Jobson began to look at bringing in music that had escaped the embrace of past progressive rockers — such as blues, funk, and most importantly, world music — as well as to free the style from a stringently structured, nearly academic viewpoint.
Jobson recorded the group in the Russian Cultural Center in the Bulgarian capital of Sofia, bringing in 14 cases of digital recording equipment from Floating Earth, a company that specializes in on-location classical recording.

 Procol Harum's Eddie Jobson (almost!)
I do know that Zappa stole Eddie Jobson away from Procol: Jobson had auditioned for PH and been invited to join, when he got the call from Zappa asking him to join his band.
Jobson recorded with King Crimson in 1977, and not with Zappa (I think) until 1978.
Jobson's only major recorded appearance with Zappa was on the Zappa In New York LP, recorded late 1976 (but not released until 1978).

Eddie Jobson's keyboard and violin work on the U.K. albums was jaw-droppingly awesome, so I was naturally seeking out something more from him, without venturing back into his side work with Zappa, Curved Air, Jethro Tull or Roxy Music.
Jobson does all of the vocals; a cross between Jon Anderson and whoever sang "Eye In The Sky" for Alan Parsons Project.
Jobson in one of the best keyboard/violin players around, on the same level as the great masters, but not vry prolific.

Jobson's lyrics are poor and his attempt to tie them together with a “green" theme doesn't help.

And while waiting for their reunion album "Legacy" (Jobson, Wetton, plus Bruford, Hackett, and Bulgarian female Church Choir), we can take a look at Eddie Jobson's career after his departure from Jethro Tull (1980, album) and Yes (1981-1982 approx.).
In 1983 Eddie left England for New York City to form his own "Zinc Studio" (where "Legacy" is in the mixing process).
Unlike Jobson's second entirely solo album, quiet and dark, absolutely instrumental "Themes of secret" (1985), most compositions from "The Green Album" are provided with his vocals.

It is strongly coloured by the synthesiser work of Eddie Jobson (who also played the violin on it) and musically it is has a markedly different flavour to other Tull albums.
Jobson's vocals are a bit on the high side, and his violin wizardry is not displayed as much as it rightly deserves, but, overall, this is a decent piece of work that should appeal to those in both the progressive and electronic camps.
Jobson's signature style can be heard here and there but the writing is not as strong as it could be.

Perhaps the wonder is that UK lasted at all after the loss of Bruford and Holdsworth, except that Jobson and Wetton always were the heart of the group.
On this performance, Jobson’s keyboards (and occasional violin) are outstanding, filling in the space so well that he nearly does the work of two musicians (“Alaska” is particularly impressive).
Given the often redundant nature of live recordings, this one is remarkably relevant.

I first knew of Jobson because he was the guy who replaced Eno in the synth role in Roxy Music, from ‘73-’75, on the “Stranded”, “Country Life” and “Siren” LPs.
He didn’t try to fill Eno’s shoes; he sidestepped that whole nasty process by simply being his own person and doing keyboard duties a litlte differently, as well as including some violin playing.
After bumming around with Zappa, UK, 801 and the Tull, Jobson finally got the chance to do his own solo album in the early ’80s, and in keeping with the “Tron”-esque feeling of technological goodwill, it sounds like — well, the soundtrack to “Tron”.
