Superstar (Remember How You Got Where You Are) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Kendricks quit the group amidst conflicts and tension between him and bandmates Otis Williams and Melvin Franklin, and after being denied the opportunity to record a solo album of classic-styled soul as a reprieve from Norman Whifield's psychedelic soul record, which he detested.
Kendricks told Ruffin, with whom he had continued an alliance, of his problems with the group.
Not long after Kendricks' departure, the falsetto singer was heard in several interviews blaiming his departure on the "jealousy" of Otis Williams and Melvin Franklin.

The intervening years were marked by tragedy: after touring in the late '80s with Eddie Kendricks and Dennis Edwards as a member of the "Tribute to the Temptations" package tour, David Ruffin died on June 1, 1991 after overdosing on cocaine; he was 50 years old.

Eddie was one of the main contributors to keeping Motown afloat in the ‘70s, one of the most sought-after acts on the Tamla label.
It is mutually felt that Motown is defaming the legacy and memory of Eddie Kendrick by keeping his original works from the public, whom is also being deprived of the excellent music that he recorded.
Eddie has left a legacy that should not be kept from future generations of fans who truly enjoy good music, meaningful lyrics, and appreciate a REAL vocalist and not one created as the result of studio magic.

Deep Groove Encyclopedia - Eddie Kendricks
Kendricks was the former Temptation who had the greatest solo career of their army of lead vocalists, largely due to his embrace of dance material.
Their collaborations resulted in Kendrick's most explicity discofied work, with tinges of spiritual concerns in the lyrics that continued to reflect the gospel influence on dance music: "He's a Friend," "Going Up In Smoke," and "Born Again."
Kendricks rose to fame via his leads on Temptations' classics like "Just My Imagination," "The Way You Do The Things You Do" and "Get Ready." Fans of his silky falsetto are advised to seek these recordings.

While Eddie Kendrick (or Kendricks) never made as much impact on his own as he did with The Temptations, he still made some fine singles as a solo artist on Motown.
These are included on this anthology, and while three or four great tunes usually aren't enough to merit an anthology, Motown has issued them by artists who had even fewer.
