Eddie was raised on the East Coast with his Gaelic heritage intact but country became part of his life as a youngster.
Eddie was nominated for three Grammy awards in country music and was named best pop male singer in 1981 by the American Music Awards.

Eddie Rabbitt (born November 27, 1941 - May 7, 1998) was a Country Music singer, who enjoyed much Pop success in his career, helping develop the crossover influenced sound in Country music during the 1970s and 80s.
Eddie was born Edward Thomas Rabbitt in Brooklyn, New York, but he was raised in East Orange, New Jersey.
On May 7, 1998 Rabbitt died of lung cancer at the age of 56, and is interred in the Calvary Cemetery in Nashville, Tennessee.

Eddie Rabbitt recorded Beatin' the Odds after having surgery to remove part of one of his lungs because of cancer and during the time in which he was enduring chemotherapy for the malevolent disease.
Six of these were new songs he put together for the recording, and six were well-known fan favorites like "Drivin' My Life Away," "I Love a Rainy Night," and "I'll Make Everything Alright." Just those three songs alone are enough to make this a perfect addition to any country music collection.
Sadly, the title of the album didn't become a self-fulfilling prophecy, and eight short months after Beatin' the Odds hit the store shelves, Eddie Rabbitt lost his battle to lung cancer.
