	Edelaraudtee - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
		Edelaraudtee also operates the passenger services from Tallinn to Narva, Orava, and Valga over lines belonging to freight operator Eesti Raudtee.
		British railway company GB Railways acquired Edelaraudtee in 2000.
		Freight operations are handled by Czech-built ChME3 diesel shunters, while passenger services are provided by around twenty DR1A and DR1B diesel multiple units.

	CER \| Estonia under NATO's eye
		Estonia's Edelaraudtee (Southwest Railways) and the Transport and Communications Ministry agreed on Tuesday to set up a joint working group to draw up a long-term plan for subsidies to passenger rail traffic.
		Edelaraudtee presented its proposals to the government last month.
		Edelaraudtee has also announced that if the government will not accept the company's proposals concerning ways to maintain train traffic, it will fire 228 workers.

		On Friday, 24 September, in spite of the collective agreement the engine-drivers of AS Edelaraudtee started a two-day support strike as a result of which the passenger railway traffic stopped.
		"The behaviour of the Edelaraudtee railroaders is reprehensible that the support strike is used for exerting pressure on salary negotiations.
		The opinion of the Estonian Employers' Confederation is that such a situation does not enable social stability in any sector and that it harms essentially the competitiveness of Estonian companies and economy.

	Railway strikes raise questions of legality
		The Edelaraudtee drivers had wanted to organise a strike in April 2004 to support of their own demands for pay increases.
		After the action in September, Edelaraudtee stated that it had not been able to guarantee service for most of its passengers during the two-day support strike and claimed EEK 4 million from Locomotive Workers’ Trade Union for the damages the strike caused.
		According to Edelaraudtee, support strikes unlawful are unlawful if there is valid collective agreement that includes a peace clause, as at Edelaraudtee.

		Estonia is the most advanced country in the region concerning the privatization of the railway industry, with the sale of 100% of EDELARAUDTEE (passengers) to a British company (GB Railways) in December 2000, and of 66% of EESTI RAUDTEE (freight) to a consortium of British, Americans and Estonians in April 2001.
		EVR, the company maintaining the infrastructure, was also privatized, sold to a German investor.
