Eden Valley covers an area as large as that of the Barossa Valley proper, albeit less intensely developed.
Thus, at an altitude of around 500 metres (1640 feet) the Pewsey Vale, Heggies and High Eden vineyards at the southern end of the Eden Valley are appreciably cooler than the more northerly Henschke vineyards at an elevation of 380 to 400 metres (1247 to 1312 feet) around Keyneton.
Chardonnay is a relative newcomer with the first commercial vineyards in South Australia being established at Mountadam in 1973.

The downsides were that we were shifted from place to place, initially upstairs and then into a private room and then back downstairs and then at the end of the meal they tried to charge us $240 (perhaps a mixup due to the tables being changed).

Tyrrell’s Vat 47 Chardonnay 2000 - (Hunter Valley, New South Wales): Citrus, peaches and a touch of butter and oak in the background.
This is the first vintage of sparkling Riesling Icewine from this winery (and apparently the first sparkling Riesling Icewine from the region) and I’m sure they’ll improve the results with more experience.

A squeeky clean new release from Leo Buring is first up, the 2006 Eden Valley Riesling.
This is a very different wine to the 2002 vintage, far more concentrated and fruit forward.
This bottle had been sitting in the cellar for around 2 years now, it saddens me to think there is only one left.
