Edgar Froese is one of the most important electronic musicians and founding member of the pioneer electronic music band Tangerine Dream.
Edgar Froese’s fascination for the work of the Spanish surrealist painter Salvador Dali drove him to became acquainted with him personally through the German artist Joseph Beuys, and in 1967 he and his band accepted an invitation to perform several private concerts in Dali’s villa in Cadaques, Spain.
As a result of Edgar Froese’s friendship with Dalí, in July 1967 he was asked to write the music for the documental on Dalí that the French producer J.C. Avery was filming at the inauguration of the famous Dali’s Christ statue.

Voices In The Net - Edgar Froese
Edgar Wilmar Froese (born on June 6th, 1944 in Tilsit) founded Tangerine Dream in September 1967 in Berlin, where he just had finished studies at the Academy for the Arts after almost four years.
Edgar and Monika Froese helped them at various stages, up to TD sharing their Berlin rehearsal stage built in an old thatre with both of them.
Up to now Edgar Froese still is the nucleus of Tangerine Dream: Except very few solo contributions by other TD members, he co-composed and co-performed all of the hundreds of Tangerine Dream compositions.

smd Review: Edgar Froese / Dalinetopia
Edgar's first album of all new material for some 21 years should be a matter for some rejoicing.
As most of will you already know Edgar met Salvador Dali, whilst still in The Ones in 1965, and it was that meeting which led Edgar to eventually start TD and the rest is, as they say, history.
As Edgar himself puts it in the sleeve notes, this CD is composed in his honour and respect.

Edgar Froese is one of the few musicians to have met with and actually worked with Dali.
While Tangerine Dream were Establishing Themselves in the Early Seventies Edgar Froese While Universally Acknowledged as the Leader of Tangerine Dream Decided He Would also Like to have a Solo Career which Would Run Parallel with the Career He Had with Tangerine Dream.
Edgar Froese was One of the Few Musicians to have Met with and Actually Worked with Salvador Dali and this Recording Will Not Only Fascinate the Longstanding Edgar Froese Fan but Will also Perhaps Interest Those Fans of the Great Dali who was Considered on of the World's Finest Surreal Artists.

Edgar Froese - Biography - AOL Music
The only continuing member of the pioneering synthesizer group Tangerine Dream, Edgar Froese also proved to be one of the most ambitious in releasing solo albums alongside the voluminous output of the band.
Even while Tangerine Dream was releasing career classics Phaedra and Rubycon during 1974-75, Froese began his solo career with the two records Aqua and Epsilon in Malaysian Pale, quite similar in style to contemporary work by Tangerine Dream.
By that point, Froese was the undisputed leader of Tangerine Dream and could release material which would have appeared as solo work during the previous decade.

 AmbientMusicGuide.com - Edgar Froese
Tangerine Dream founder Edgar Froese is one of the key figures in the history of ambient and the only member of the iconic Krautrock band who's been on board the whole distance.
The also prove beyond doubt that Froese was one of the great mellotron technicians of his time, using its slightly otherworldly sampled string and choral sounds to brilliant effect.
The 20-minute title track is another highlight and suggests the influence on Froese of new TD bandmate Johannes Schomelling in its sleek sounds and the very musical way it segues smoothly between quite distinct movements.

Froese certainly has an ear for melodies, but the more abstract, ambient feelings so closely associated with Tangerine Dream is here lacking.
I think that "Stuntman" is one and only album of Edgar Froese that can really be recommended to the widest audience possible, for the eerie atmosphere and more often than not, frivolity - should appeal to listeners outside of the narrow circle of electronic music audiophiles.
Edgar Froese was the founder of Tangerine Dream, and here's that fabulous track, worth the entire album.

Edgar Froese : Ages - Listen, Review and Buy at ARTISTdirect
Edgar Froese is a great musician and a shrewd businessman.
Realizing that he and his associates would need money to fund the progress of Tangerine Dream, he took advantage of both of those qualities and launched his solo career while Tangerine Dream was still in their infancy.
Froese does not show that side of himself to his listeners very often, so it is a treat.

Since then, for years we did not hear from him, until in 1991 Tangerine Dream shrunk to Edgar Froese and his son, when in fact all output (I dare not call it Music) of this band from that point on might be attributed to Froese senior or junior.
In summary, this is rather a forgettable item in the solo career of Edgar Froese, but considering what was done to Tangerine Dream in the last 15 years, I have no other choice but recommend "Pinnacles", simply because it's still music good enough to listen to from time to time.
The album also demonstrates another failing to which Froese's solo works can be prone: having established a good opening idea or two, the music then wanders around rather aimlessly, or else sits in one spot, constantly repeating itself, as though lost.

Stuntman - Edgar Froese - Music Reviews
Narrowing the gap between psychedelia and electronica, Tangerine Dream frontman Edgar Froese looks to the future in this clean and mostly satisfying release; all in all an important turning point for the artist.
The majestic qualities of "Stuntman" don't match up with the rest of the album's aesthetics, so Froese's stream-of-consciousness journey really begins with track two ("It Would Be Like Samoa") and keeps up a good pace from there, soloing over his carefully balanced sequencer beds and analog ambience.
He uses his electric guitar sparingly, and there's almost no percussion (without his bandmates, the album is mostly too delicate in nature to support it), but there's no mistaking that Froese is the heart, soul, and defining sound of Tangerine Dream.

Just when I thought it was safe to perhaps think that Edgar's reissues had escaped relatively unscathed, along came this.
For those of you who don't know this one — it is a rerelease of Edgar's first solo album, dating back to 1974.
But be warned, be very warned, the sleeve notes make it clear that this is a new recording, and right from the start the purists are likely to be offended by what Edgar has done to it.

 Stuntman by Edgar Froese CD
Possibly because of TD's then (late '70s/early '80s) entrTe into the world of soundtracking, Froese's compositions became somewhat more tangible and nearly immediately gratifying.
Froese rediscovers the joys of sequencers on STUNTMAN, and he marries their ever-shifting patterns with a seemingly infinite palette of tonal colors, invented sounds, and surreal imagery.
"Detroit Snackbar Dreamer" and "A Dali-esque Sleep Fuse" (Froese has long used Salvador D. as inspiration) are exercises in mellotronic surrealism, pulsing with sounds wrenched from deep within their machines' programmed innards.

ong before Underwater Sunlight reached our ears, Edgar Froese went on an aquatic excursion of his own, the first of several ‘70s solo albums from the primary brain behind Tangerine Dream.
Aqua is as much sound as music, designed (with the benefit of an “artifical head system” developed by Gunther Brushcen) to be experienced on headphones.
In such a setting (which I haven’t tried since the days of the Stax electrostatic ear speakers), it’s easy to imagine the listener fully immersed in Froese’s waterworld.
