		Squeezing the connector like this forces the wires down into the sharp slots in the backs of the pins, cutting through the plastic insulation and making firm electrical contacts between the wires and the pins.
		Here is the completed SD floppy connector, with label attached showing which way to insert the SD card, and with a guide shim (cut from a plastic soda pop bottle) folded over and inserted to help guide the SD card into the proper pins.

		They have replaced it with a new "Edge connector" that allows you to use Springboards through the use of a detachable Springboard slot that slides onto the back of the Edge, as shown in Figure D. The Edge connector attaches to the back of the Visor Edge.

		I have routed the components on the board and need to route to the edge connector, which is not a component on the schematic.
		I actually had a connector on the schematic originally, but I couldn't find a PCB footprint that was even close (80 fingers, 40 on each side of the board).
		You could certainly create the edge connector as you mention (associate copper with comp pins or even creating named copper areas for each finger to it's net) but it's a lot of extra work.
