He further strengthened the legitimacy of his position by marrying Edith (alias Matilda) the daughter of Malcolm III of Scotland and niece of Edgar Aetheling.
Henry subsequently wrested control of the duchy of Normandy from his brother Robert whom he defeated as the battle of Tinchebrai in 1106 and then kept in prison for the rest of his life.

Let's start with an obvious problem: Matilda of Scotland (first wife of Henry I) is cited as having been born in 1080, and died in 1118 -- at the age of 41.
Getting back to Matilda of Scotland, she says "there is no evidence that she ever had the slightest influence over her husband," a statement which flies directly in the face of Matilda's contemporaries and subsequent biographers.
