EDLESBOROUGH, in the hundred of Cotslow and deanery of Muresley, lies on the borders of Bedfordshire, under the Chiltern hills, near the ancient Ickeneld-Street; about four miles and a half south-west of Dunstaple.
The manor of Bates, in Edlesborough, which had been long attached to that of the neighbouring parish of Eaton-Bray in Bedfordshire, [Footnote: Bates has been attached to the manor of Eaton-Bray, since the time of Sir Reginald Bray, and probably at a much earlier period.] is the property of William Beckford esq.
In the chancel are some brasses of a large size, among which is that of Sir John Swynshide, rector of Edlesborough, who died in 1390: in the north chancel or Rufford's aisle, are some tombs of the family of Rufford.

A special mention also for Owen Turner who came straight to Edlesborough for the trial having been up all night rallying in his K series Imp.

They christened at least 9 children between 1772 and 1796 in Edlesborough, including my G/G/Grandfather Benjamin 1789, and his brothers Thomas 1779, Elisha 1786, and John 1787, all of whom seem to have moved to Bushey.
Favourite family names were Thomas, Elisha, Benjamin and John, and a lot of the males I have traced throughout the 250 year period have been Gardeners by trade, and I would be most interested to find out why.
I see from the Edlesborough War Memorial that there were still Rooms there during the 1914/18 war, and would be very interested in any information anyone might have on this surname.

Thank you all for turning out for the Saturday league team this season.
Despite an excellent win on Saturday, chasing Edlesborough's 195-8 and getting there with just three wickets down and overs to spare (Ivan scoring 95 not out), wins for Drayton and Mentmore mean that we remain in last but one place and are relegated, six points behind Aspley Guise.
Just one more win would have seen us safe, and I feel that we are good enough to have stayed up, though it was more difficult this year, in a higher division where the batting and bowling is better.
