Fort Edmonton was established on the Northern Saskatchewan River in 1795 by the HUDSON'S BAY CO as a fortified trading post next to the rival NORTH WEST CO, which had earlier built its own fort nearby.
Today Fort Edmonton Park, located in southwest Edmonton, features a reconstruction of the fort and, as a living museum, depicts the early development of Edmonton.
The park is operated by the City of Edmonton and enjoys a yearly visitation of approximately 170 000.

Most of the funnel cloud reports from west Edmonton were clustered around 2 periods: 1600 MDT, roughly the time when the tornado dispersed, and 1800 MDT, about the time when a second storm buffeted west and central Edmonton with hail, rain, and strong winds.
These F0 tornadoes were spotted to the north, northwest, and southwest of Edmonton, but none was close enough to be seen from the city.
Good photographs of the Edmonton tornado, taken before it crossed the river, were included in Atchison (1988) and in 2 memorial booklets: Black Friday by Davidson and Diotte (1987) of the Edmonton Sun, and Tornado '87 by The Graphic Edge (1987).

As for the whole "70% in Edmonton stat", it's more like 60% (if we go by electionprediction's stats) -- but the Conservative vote carried the two edmonton sections of the riding last time around, and 50 percent of the total conservative vote is in the rural areas.
Adding western Edmonton (including West Edmonton Mall) to the constituency and the fact that Spruce Grove and Stony Plain are now commuter communities and not farm centers only changes the flavor of the conservatism.

Only three CN Rail cars of baled hay arrived under cold, dreary skies to this agricultural community, about 200 kilometres southwest of Edmonton, and they brought just enough hay for a half dozen farmers to feed their cattle for a few weeks at the most.
But 25 more carloads of hay are due to arrive next week - 11 Tuesday and 14 more Thursday - for distribution to 50 farmers who had their names drawn in a lottery.
The southeastern part of the province is suffering its driest summer in 1933 years and many farmers have had to cull their herds because they can't find enough forage to feed them.
