The Edmonton Trappers were a minor league baseball (Triple A) team in the Pacific Coast League, ending with the 2004 season.
Edmonton qualified for playoffs for the last time in history in September 2003 when the defeated the Portland Beavers to make the post-season but were eliminated immediatly by the Sacremento Rivercats 3 games to 0.
In October 2003, the Trappers' fate in Edmonton was sealed when the team was purchased by a group led by Baseball Hall of Famer Nolan Ryan and his son Reid.

The Trappers are the third of Canada's four Triple A baseball franchises to leave for the U.S. They leave the country on the heels of the Vancouver Canadians and the Calgary Cannons.

It's very likely that Edmonton will be the final Class AAA team left in Canada: this offseason the Calgary Cannons moved to Albuquerque and insiders are betting that this is the last season the Lynx play in Ottawa.
However, the Trappers are owned by the same company that owns the CFL's Edmonton Eskimos and have a long-term lease at Telus Field, so they appear to be safe for the time being.
The Trappers begin with a new major-league affiliate -- the Montreal Expos -- and several economic strikes against the team: it's now even more geographically isolated now that the Calgary Cannons relocated to Albuquerque and players' wives can't work due to Canadian work laws.

The Edmonton Trappers, appearing with City of Yuma Mayor Larry Nelson at a press conference held at the Desert Sun Stadium Clubhouse this morning, announced the launch of their 2004 season in Yuma.
The city’s agreement with the team is a one-time only agreement, and does not extend beyond the eight games scheduled in April.
