By 1904 Edmonton had 9,000 residents, and a year later, when Alberta became a province, it became incorporated as a city and was declared the provincial capital.
Edmonton serves as the northern anchor of the "Calgary-Edmonton Corridor" (one of four such regions that, in total, comprise 50% of the Canadian population) and is a staging point for large-scale oilsands projects occurring in the north of the province as well as large-scale diamond mining operations in the Northwest Territories.
Edmonton is situated at the boundary between prairie to the south and boreal forest to the north, in a transitional area known as aspen parkland.

The Edmonton Bulletin reported Pierre St. Germane and Lawrence Garneau, Metis, who were arrested nearly six weeks ago on a charge of being concerned in Riel's rebellion, as released on their own recognizance, to appear and answer to the charges at the next sittings of the Saskatchewan District Court.

The New Democratic Party, left of the Liberals, which is strongest in British Columbia where its provincial leader is none other than Premier Ujjal Dosanjh who hails from Punjab, fielded a few South Asians but they did not fare well.

A new provincial left party is forming in Quebec out of the fusion of UFP (Union of Progressive Forces) and Option Citoyenne (Citizen's Option).
This time around, the Conservatives got 24.6% and ten seats, thanks to concentration in greater Quebec City where the right-wing provincial party, ADQ, has its most strength (and seats in the Quebec National Assembly).
This party, to be formed in a conference over Feb.3-5, will create a party with more members than the third provincial party, ADQ.

When I was in Edmonton, I attended an excellently organized all-party candidates' rally sponsored by the South Edmonton Business Association -- three electoral districts and eight candidates in total.
In light of section 350, third parties are now restricted from spending a total of $150,000 during an election period, with not more than $3,000 of that total spending any one electoral district in order to promote or oppose the person's election.
One of the candidates, Bruce King, running for the Liberals in Edmonton Leduc, was trying to make an argument for why we should not put funding into military equipment.
