Edmund Casimir Cardinal Szoka (born September 14, 1927) is Archbishop emeritus of Detroit, Michigan, President of the Pontifical Commission for Vatican City State, and President of the Governatorate of Vatican City.
On October 14, 1997, Cardinal Szoka was named President of the Pontifical Commission for Vatican City State, and on February 22, 2001, President of the Governatorate of Vatican City State.
It is believed that the singer Lauryn Hill directed her 2003 deunciation of clerical corruption in part at Cardinal Szoka.

Cardinal Szoka was appointed President of the Prefecture for the Economic Affairs of the Holy See in 1990 and President of the Pontifical Commission for Vatican City in 1997.
Cardinal Szoka was a member of the board of trustees of the Catholic University of America and of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception, both in Washington, D.C. He served as Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Catholic Telecommunications Network of America and as a member of the Catholic Relief Services’ Board.

A celebration of former Detroit Cardinal Edmund Szoka's 50th anniversary as a priest on Wednesday turned into a showcase of Michigan's strong influence in the global Catholic Church.
Several cardinals and dozens of bishops from around the world shared in a 2-hour mass at Blessed Sacrament Cathedral in Detroit to honor Szoka, the archbishop of Detroit throughout most of the 1980s and now head of the Vatican City government.
Szoka, 76, has become one of the most influential cardinals in the billion-member church, said the Rev. Tom Reese, editor of America Magazine, a nationwide weekly for Catholics.

The increase in budget outlays for 1997, as projected by Cardinal Szoka, is only $642,000, or less than one-third of one percent of the overall total.
Although it is difficult to provide an accurate preview of the year's budget-- which can be affected by many external causes, such as fluctuations in the markets and shifts in international exchange rates-- the Holy See is currently projecting a slight budget surplus for the 1997 fiscal year.
