Describes the career of John Francis Rigaud (1742-1810) in detail; discussion of painting techniques, and frequent mention of the Royal Academy; accompanied by seven related pieces concerning the Rigaud and Dutilh families.
Preface is dated 1832 Aug 12 and the poems are dated 1825-1832; the author explains in his preface that most of his poems were written for the literary society of the Society of Friends to which he belonged; several are addressed to George Herron.

 Hay In Art: Hay on water.
John Thomas Serres' landscape of the river near Shillingford in Oxfordshire includes among several other types of river-craft a large, flat-bottomed hay-barge.
At upper left is a glowing oil painting from 1865 by the Belgian, Charles Leickert, whose 'Unloading the hay' appeared in a London gallery in 1980.
To its right, is Edmund Crawford's 'Dutch hay barge' a coolly delicate 1870 English watercolor in which the eye is drawn to yellow hay under white sails.

During the years 1960-1972 William A. Hornby did extensive research into the Hornby family of Lancashire.
It might be mentioned that she also made a delicious luncheon for us which we enjoyed while looking through the picture window of the kitchen towards one of the tenant farms still owned by the family.
Phipps John Hornby as the pivot point, the two files show ancestors and descendants of that gentlemen.

To meet present circumstances the original plans of General Joffre had to be modified, and the British now moved towards the line of the river Aisne, from Soissons to Compiegne, and then in the direction of the Marne about Meaux.
One version is that Major Hornby, being told that the enemy were in the drift, promptly galloped his battery away to bring it into action, and that the noise caused thereby told the Boers that they were detected, and they at once opened a terrific fire on all who had not passed the drift.
However, it is certain that no sooner had the battery commenced to dash away than the enemy concentrated a furious fire upon the frantic horses and their gallant drivers and gunners.
