  Eduardo De Filippo: Biography
Eduardo De Filippo was born on 24 May 1900, the son of actor Eduardo Scarpetta and Luisa De Filippo.
In 1931, together with his brother Peppino and sister Titina, he founded the theatre company "Teatro Umoristico I De Filippo", an enterprise that was to continue until 1944.
He then founded the "Compagnia di Eduardo", which in 1946 staged "Questi fantasmi (Ghosts - Italian Style", followed shortly afterwards by the hugely successful "Filumena Marturano", which was to become the most famous role of his great actress sister Titina.

Questi furono anni decisivi per la formazione di De Filippo: Pirandello continava a sorprendere in teatro, Eleonora Duse tornava in scena dopo un volontario esilio di 12 anni e, con la Marcia su Roma, nel 1922 si apriva una nuova ed imprevedibile era nella storia politica italiana e mondiale.
In quei mesi Eduardo incontrò Dorothy Pennington-Dodò- giovane e dolcissima fanciulla nata a Philadelphia il 19 gennaio 1905 e venuta in Italia forse in viaggio di istruzione o come dama di compagnia di una gran signora; dopo un anno si sposarono nella chiesa evangelica di Roma.
Sik-Sik l’artefice magico sarà l’ultima commedia interpretata da Eduardo prima di ritirarsi, dopo aver portato in scena le commedie che nel corso della sua vita era andato scrivendo ed aver dato vita ai personaggi con straordinarie capacità di interprete, Eduardo morirà a Roma nel 1984.
