In 1994, several higher education institutions in the SR were involved in the regional project PHARE - Pilot Project for Regional Cooperation in Distance Education.

On the basis of recommendations of the Accreditation Commission of the Ministry of Education of the Slovak Republic, it may grant or withdraw the right of a higher education institution or faculty to organize state and postgraduate examinations, habilitation and procedures for the nomination of professors within individual disciplines.
