Edward Gawler Prior, PC (Dallowgill near Ripon, England May 21, 1853 or 1854 – December 12, 1920 Victoria, British Columbia) was a mining engineer and politician in British Columbia.
Prior worked as a mining engineer in England until 1873 when he moved to the province where he settled in Nanaimo and took employment as assistant manager of the Vancouver Coal Mining & Land Co., Ltd. In 1878 he resigned and was appointed Inspector of Mines for the British Columbia government.
Prior was appointed Lieutenant-Governor of British Columbia in 1919 but became ill and died in office within a year of his appointment.

Prior, Edward Gawler, mining engineer, businessman, premier of BC (b at Dallaghgill, Eng 21 May 1853; d at Victoria 12 Dec 1920).
In 1873 Prior immigrated to Vancouver Island, BC, and worked for a mining company in Nanaimo.
Appointed inspector of mines in 1877, he returned to business in 1883, becoming manager of E.G. Prior, the leading hardware and machinery business in BC.

Prior, Edward Gawler, M. (Victoria), second son of Rev. Henry Prior, rector of Dallowgill, near Ripon, Yorkshire, England, was born at Dallowgill on May 21st, 1853 and educated at Leeds Grammar School, and subsequently studied the profession he afterwards followed, that of mining engineer, with J. Tolson Whyte, C. E., at Wakefield.
He practised his profession in England till 1873, when he left to come to British Columbia.
Prior is a member of St. George's Society and the Masonic fraternity.
