EDWARD KELLY (1854-1880), Australian bushranger, was born at Wallan Wallan, Victoria.
Mrs Kelly and some of the others were captured, but Ned and Daniel escaped to the hills, where they were joined by two other desperadoes, Byrne and Hart.

 The Invisible Basilica: Edward Kelly
Kelly is best known for his travels with John Dee and work his work for Dee as a "skryer" or visionary medium; but he was also a noted alchemist on his own right, publishing three alchemical works: The Stone of the Philosophers, The Humid Way, and The Theatre of Terrestrial Astronomy.
Kelly expressed his fear and mistrust of the spirits on a number of occasions.
Kelly received knighthood at the hand of the Bohemian Emperor Rudolph II as a reward for his alchemical works (possibly as a result of the small quantities of the Red and White Tinctures which he possessed), but Rudolph later imprisoned him when he failed to deliver the quantities of alchemical gold he had promised.

Kelly, with this character, was just the man to carry on any piece of roguery for his own advantage, or to nurture the delusions of his master for the same purpose.
Kelly, at these interviews, placed himself at a certain distance from the wondrous crystal, and gazed intently upon it; while Dee took his place in corner, ready to set down the prophecies as they were uttered by the spirits.
Kelly imagined himself a much greater personage than Dee; measuring, most likely, by the standard of impudent roguery; and was displeased that on all occasions, and from all persons, Dee received the greater share of honour and consideration.
