Lasker’s subsequent tournament results proved overwhelming, eclipsing the standard set by Adolf Anderssen in the 1860s and 1870s and, in turn, to be eclipsed by Alexander Alekhine from 1927 to 1935.
Indeed, Lasker had earlier offered to surrender the title to his young Cuban pursuer, agreeing to play only because of the enormous $25,000 prize fund raised by Capablanca, a sum not exceeded in terms of real dollars until, probably, the Kaprov - Korchnoi match of 1978 in the Philippines.

In Lasker's day, I believe the general situation was much the same: northern European countries and their colonies led the way, and the rest of the world was more or less appalling by comparison.
It was a simpler time, and Lasker and his contemporaries had only appearances to go on.
They lacked the sophisticated academic research that has since proven "whites" are no better than any other race--in fact they are somewhat worse, for they are responsible for all the problems of the other races.

But the available evidence (as described by Edward Lasker) supports the opposite conclusion.
*If* Emanuel Lasker imagined that he could become a 'Go master' (in a Japanese professional sense) after *only* 'a few months' of practice with Japanese Go masters, then he was being absurdly optimistic.
Based on the available evidence, Emanuel Lasker was a novice Go player with an extremely optimistic perception of his own strength at Go.
