	Sam McDowell - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
		Samuel Edward Thomas McDowell (born September 21, 1942 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania), is a former left-handed pitcher in Major League Baseball, playing his first 11 seasons for the Cleveland Indians before a 1971 trade to the San Francisco Giants and subsequent stints with the New York Yankees and Pittsburgh Pirates.
		A six-time All-Star (1965-66, 1968-71), McDowell was also the league leader in ERA and strikeouts in 1965, led in strikeouts and shutouts in 1966, and led the league in strikeouts again in 1968 and 1969.
		McDowell was known to be a heavy drinker, with his sometimes erratic behavior the end result of his alcohol problem.

		MISSOULA - Joseph Edward McDowell, a big man who in many ways seemed larger than life, died peacefully in his sleep on Thursday, June 17, 2004, at Bee Hive Homes.
		Born in Pocatello, Idaho, in July 1912, he was raised from infancy in Deer Lodge, and after a professional career on the East Coast, returned to Powell County to enjoy the last long segment of his life along the North Fork of the Blackfoot River.
		He is survived by all six of his children, Catherine Brooks, Maura Kealey, John McDowell and his wife Pat, Ann McDowell, Peter McDowell and his wife Lola, and Charlotte McDowell; as well as six loving grandchildren and many nieces and nephews and their children.
