  Spartanburg SC | GoUpstate.com | Spartanburg Herald-Journal
Roland Michener was the son of former Canadian Senator Edward Michener.
Michener angered Diefenbaker by allowing the Opposition a great degree of latitude during Question Period, and, at one point on May 25 1959, Diefenbaker was so flustered that he refused to sit down when called to order by Michener.
Michener was officially appointed Governor General on April 17, 1967 by Elizabeth II, the Queen of Canada and Canada's head of state under the Canadian constitution.

Michener first ran for office as a Conservative in the Ontario provincial election of 1943 but was defeated.
Michener's defeat in Toronto St. Paul's demonstrated the dilemma of a Speaker who must run as a party man after having remained silent on political issues for several years.

The history of the Chesepeake is directly intertwined with the history of America, and along the way Michener brilliantly brings to life the struggles in forming this nation.
Usually, Michener is light on the characterization, but I would say he milked the characters to the bone with this one.
Michener's books use a common plot formula that starts out by telling a story that in some way reflects and utilizes accurately the actual or known historical developments and time lines and people of a region.

I am not sure James Michener is still in style (he was sure hot in the Sixties, but tastes do change.) However, his blockbuster novels all attempt to condense wide expanses of history by telling stories from the viewpoint of fictionalized individuals.
Michener's theology seems to be that all of religion is made-up fantasy anyway, and the only thing that really matters is a (pagan?) relationship to the land.
Michener could not have foreseen the revival and renewal movements that would appear during the 1970s and 80s, resulting in the still-growing Hasidic and Orthodox communities of today.

Bruce Katsiff, director of the Michener Museum, says: “Michener believed strongly that a good education does matter, that museums and libraries enrich our lives, and that art in public—versus private—collections is consistent with the democratic nature of our society.
The Michener is a medium-size museum with a narrow collecting interest and a mandate to serve the cultural needs of the growing population of Bucks County.

Practically all of the Pennsylvania Impressionists were enthusiastic about plein air painting, especially Edward Redfield, who passionately believed that the essential vitality of a place could only be captured by an artist whose senses were actively engaged.
To Redfield, painters had to see, hear, smell, feel, and even taste what they put on their canvases, as well as create an entire painting in one sitting or, as he said, "at one go." To accomplish this, he often endured tremendous physical hardships while making his famous snow scenes.

A questionnaire designed to identify Michener's research methods and verify his use of quotes was sent to approximately two hundred individuals quoted by Michener.
Although only about half of the individuals to whom the questionnaires were sent responded, their responses indicated that in a number of instances Michener had indeed misquoted and distorted statements given to him during interviews.
