In 1995, the Edward R. Madigan State Fish and Wildlife Area, a state park near Lincoln, was renamed in Madigan's honor.
Edward came from a political active family and his younger brother Robert served in Illinois State Senate for 14 years and after that on the Illinois Commerce Commsion.

Connecticut will abandon one of the most discriminatory drug sentencing policies in the nation if Gov. Jodi Rell keeps her promise to sign a bill that would equalize sentences for crack cocaine and the powdered form of the drug.
The bill is not perfect, but the basic idea deserves to be emulated by other states and by Congress, which has failed to make a similar adjustment in federal law despite being repeatedly urged to do so by the United States Sentencing Commission.

Jodi Rell has directed state agencies to organize training sessions and exercises to prepare for the possibility of a hurricane.
An emergency management symposium, co-sponsored with the Connecticut Conference of Municipalities, scheduled this week was intended to provide local and state officials with workshops on emergency planning.
A statewide hurricane exercise is planned for June 28 with state response agencies and municipalities and is to focus on recovery plans following a Category 4 hurricane in southern New England.
