Haym Solomon (or Salomon) (1740–1785) was a prime financier of the American side during the American Revolutionary War against the United Kingdom.
In 1941, the George Washington-Robert Morris-Haym Salomon Memorial was erected along Wacker Drive in downtown Chicago.
Salomon advanced direct loans to the government and also gave generously of his own resources to pay the salaries of government officials and army officers.

A.H. Van Norstrand of the 4th Regiment Wisconsin Volunteers wrote this letter to Governor Edward Saloman in July of 1862 from a hospital near Vicksburg.
Norstrand describes the deplorable conditions of the hospital, the inadequate supplies of food and medicine for the wounded men, and the general suffering caused by the southern climate.

Seated in the center holding a sword is Colonel Edward Selig Salomon, former Alderman of Chicago's Ward Six, future Governor of Washington Territory and the second-highest-ranking Jewish officer in the Union volunteer army.
Its second colonel (after the wounding and retirement of the German revolutionary Frederick Hecker) was Edward Selig Salomon, who was to end the war a Brevet Brigadier and go on to become Governor of Washington Territory, District Attorney of San Francisco and Member of the California State Legislature.
The regiment fought in an staggering number of engagements in both the East and the West: Chancellorsville, Gettysburg, Chattanooga, Lookout Mountain, Resaca, New Hope Church, Kolb's Farm, Peachtree Creek, Atlanta, Sherman's March to the Sea, Averysboro and Bentonville.

Vilas.
The bulk of the John L. Mitchell's incoming correspondence (1884-1901) was written during his senatorial career, consisting mainly of constituent letters and requests for support for legislation by members of the government.

Done at Madison this 8th day of July, A. Governor Edward Salomon issued this proclamation requesting more volunteers in the summer of 1862.
Under order from the War Department, Salomon promised each volunteer enough money to care for dependent family members and emphasized the benefits of volunteering for the Union cause.
