Edward Shortt KC (March 10, 1862 – November 10, 1935) was a British politician, who served as a member of David Lloyd George's cabinet.
Shortt was not a very active MP but his appointment to Chair a Select Committee to review the operation of the Military Service Acts in 1917 brought him to the attention of Lloyd George.
Shortt was not well-respected in Parliament where he had a reputation for laziness and for appointing fellow Barristers from the North East to important posts.

Soon thereafter in 1948, Shortt and Garnham (at the Ross Institute of the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, England) and Malamos published their milestone finding of the cyst-like body, filled with thousands of merozoites, in the liver of a rhesus monkey that had been inoculated 102 days before with from 500 mosquitoes.

Shortt admitted during his guilty plea last March that he conspired to distribute anabolic steroids and HGH to NFL football players, bodybuilders and law enforcement officers for purposes of performance enhancement.
Based in part upon the government’s argument, and also on what Judge Anderson perceived as a “lack of remorse” on the part of Shortt, the court rejected the zero to six months sentencing range and instead sentenced Shortt to one year and one day in prison.
With the additional day in prison, Shortt can qualify for good behavior credit while incarcerated, potentially resulting in a shorter term of approximately 10 and a half months.

Since only courts can convict for crimes, Shortt and Wolff asked U.S. District Judge Edward C. McLean to void the draft orders for lack of due process and patent violation of their First Amendment rights of free speech, assembly and petition.

The King visited Leicester on 10th June 1919 to thank the people for their contribution to the war effort.
Four days later, on 14th June 1919, the Home Secretary, Edward Shortt, wrote to the mayor of Leicester, informing him that: 'His Majesty has been graciously pleased to approve the restoration of the town to its former status of a city.'
The See of Leicester, the diocese under the control of a bishop, was finally restored in 1926, and the Church of St Martin became the new city's cathedral.
