For those who were furtunate enough to be a recipient of the Sir Edward Youde Memorial Fund, the opportunities were obvious.
With the active support of Lady Youde and the encouragement of the late Honourable Stephen Cheong, the idea of setting up an association among recipients of the fellowships and Scholarships came into the mind of a group of young and enthusiastic scholars as early as in 1990.
Thanks to the support and assistance of the Fellows and Scholars of the Sir Edward Youde Memorial Fund was officially formed in March 1992, and was later renamed Sir Edward Youde Scholars Association.

More than 920 students, five working adults and two apprentices were presented with prizes and scholarships under the Sir Edward Youde Memorial Fund at the 19th Awards Presentation Ceremony at City Hall today.
Officiating at the ceremony, Lady Youde said the fund has disbursed $169 million since 1987, benefiting directly or indirectly more than 440,000 students through various awards and sponsored activities.
In pursuing its objective of encouraging and promoting education, the fund disbursed $9.5 million in the 2005-06 academic year.
