Edward Fox (born 13 April 1937) is an English stage, film and television actor.
However, it was as the assassin in 1973's The Day of the Jackal that he made the biggest impression, and from then on he was much sought after.
In 1980, he played King Edward VIII in the television drama series, Edward and Mrs Simpson and in 1983 played M in the unofficial James Bond film Never Say Never Again.

If you're going to pick flaws then I thought Edward was characterised too sympathetically (rather like Edward VII in ATV's seventies production) and Andrew Ray's Duke of York was a bit too wide-eyed and innocent.
It is a bit too soft on Edward for these times I agree, although it does manage to get in those scenes with an impossibly young Hugh Fraser as Anthony Eden trying to dissuade him from being too chummy with Mussolini...
If you can't wait for the Region 2 DVD then 'Edward And Mrs Simpson' is being released on DVD in America on 22 February 2005.

I know Edward was a careful and distinguished dresser, but James Fox oudoes him on all counts.
