Otts, Offerle and others, substantial and enterprising citizens of Henry county, Illinois, prospected the county and fixed upon the present site of Offerle as a desirable point at which to start a town, and in the spring, 1876, made a beginning, the result of which cannot but be flattering to their wisdom, judgment and sagacity.
The population of Edwards county, as determined by census May l, 1875, was 234, of which 138 were males and 96 females.
The Edwards Bros. brick store was south of the track and in the first block east of the sixth street crossing on the northeast corner of the block at sixth and Marsh.

West of Kinsley, Kansas was a place where the early and later Dry Routes of the Santa Fe Trail crossed Big Coon Creek.
The Later Dry Route came from the north and crossed the county road just to the west of the farm yard to the northeast of the crossing.
