  Catherine Ladd Biography
In addition to her poems and sketches, Ladd is said to have contributed articles to the Charleston News and Courier, in which she advocated the use of white labor and the development of manufacturing in the South.
Ladd's husband died in 1864, and in early 1865 her home was burned to the ground by Union troops during General William T. Sherman's march through South Carolina.
LADD, CATHERINE (Oct. 28, 1808-Jan. 30, 1899), schoolmistress and writer of fugitive prose and verse, was born in Richmond, Va., where her father James Stratton had married her mother, Ann Collins, in 1807, a year after his arrival from Ireland.

Edwin Freemont Ladd was born at Starks, Maine on December 13, 1859, the son of John and Rosilla (Locke) Ladd.
In 1890 Professor Ladd was asked by H.E. Stockbridge of the newly established North Dakota Agricultural College and Experiment Station in Fargo to become Professor of Chemistry at the college and chemist of the Agricultural Experiment Station.
The Ladd collection is a combination of original and artificially assembled manuscripts and papers documenting the life of Professor Ladd and some members of his family with the greater majority of material artificially assembled.

Edwin B. son of Benjamin, born Sullivan, a brother of Carlton, and also a physician, was in some Vermont regiment, and lost his life at the battle of Cold Harbor.
He was the son of John Ladd, and was born in Bristol, Dec. 22, 1843, on the John Ladd farm, south of Fowler's river, east of the highway, near the lake.
The funeral of Ladd and Whitney was held at Lowell; that of Wright, at Lawrence.

In connection with the iron business he was occupied with farming, lumbering, milling, merchandising, etc. He also filled the office of justice of the peace, and in 1849 he was, elected to the legislature and served on the committee of domestic manufactures.

Miller as an Administrative Committee to perform the duties with respect to the internal affairs and management of the Institute normally the responsibility of the president.
Walker soon resigned and was replaced on March 1 by Professor Edwin B. Wilson.
The Administrative Committee would continue until January 1, 1923, with Professor Charles Ladd Norton replacing Wilson on May 18, 1922.
