Pauley was en route to East Asia to discuss with General MacArthur the Japanese situation in light of rising tensions with the Soviet Union.
When Truman nominated Pauley to be Undersecretary of the Navy in 1946, he was opposed by Secretary of the Interior, Harold Ickes.
In the summer of 1944, while treasurer of the DNC, Pauley was part of a group that persuaded Roosevelt to choose Truman over Henry Wallace as the vice-presidential nominee.

Pauley Pavilion was introduced to the University at the June 1965 Commencement exercises, at which time it was dedicated and named for Regent Edwin W. Pauley, the principal donor to the building fund.
Total cost of the Pavilion was provided as follows: $2,000,000 by the State, $1,000,000 by the student body and in excess of $2,000,000 by the alumni with $1,000,000 of the alumni contribution donated on a matching basis by Regent Pauley.
Now in its 36th season as the home of Bruin athletic teams, Pauley Pavilion is regarded as one of the finest all-around collegiate facilities in the nation and has been the site of numerous illustrious events.

A botanical collection housed at UC Santa Barbara that surpasses the breadth of the Smithsonian in its class will be accessible for the first time to the international botanical research community, K-12 teachers, and the public due to a $342,000 grant from the Edwin W. Pauley Foundation, of Los Angeles.
Cheadle and Esau is legendary and the opportunity to prepare digital images of slides from representative families in the collection will be a wonderful resource for a broad spectrum of plant biologists and educators," said Thorsch.
They were all carefully collected and documented by the late Vernon I. Cheadle, a botanist and former UCSB chancellor, and his longtime collaborator, the late UCSB botanist Katherine Esau.

Ickes did not get on with Harry S. Truman and resigned from his government in 1946 in protest over the appointment of Edwin W. Pauley, Under Secretary of the Navy.
Ickes, a strong supporter of civil rights, he worked closely with Walter Francis White of the NAACP to establish quotas for African American workers in PWA projects.
Ickes became a follower of Franklin D. Roosevelt after being impressed by his progressive policies as governor of New York.
