  God's Redemptive Plan Frameset
Edwin Thiele's extensive work to determine the reigns of the kings of Israel during the period of the the Divided Kingdom becomes the natural starting point in constructing calendars for the Old Testament.
Edwin Thiele was able initially to tie two recorded events in the Old Testament to specific dates recorded in eponyms of the ancient Assyrian empire.
Using the two dated events associated with Ahab and Jehu, Edwin Thiele was then able work forward and backward through the entire period of the Divided Kingdom, determining dates for the reigns of all of the kings.

Publisher Commentary: “...Dr. Edwin R. Thiele has addressed these issues and solved the problems related to the chronology of the Hebrew kings.
Thiele has put things into sensible order - and proven the reliability of the regnal data from the Books of Kings.
Thiele takes these and other considerations into account, and the result is stupendous.

Northern Kingdom - CreationWiki, the encyclopedia of creation science
Ussher and Thiele concluded independently that Jeroboam II must have served as viceroy during the reign of Joash of Israel.
Thiele moved the ascendancy of Jehu forward in time by forty-three years, and also moved the date of the Fall of Jerusalem forward by two years.
Thiele evidently was trying to reconcile the stated history of the Northern Kingdom in I and II Kings with generally accepted dates in Assyrian history.

  Biblical Horizons » 1990 » September
Although Thiele seeks to defend the Bible as much as possible, it is clear that what he regards as more reliable is the chronological data that comes from the nations around Israel; that is, the currently-reigning interpretation of that data.
Thiele maintains that sometimes the two kingdoms used the accession-year method, and sometimes the nonaccession-year method, and moreover that sometimes the king’s reign began in the fall (Tishri) and sometimes in the spring (Nisan).
Thiele’s work has been influential, primarily I suspect because of the unwillingness of evangelical scholars to challenge the "assured results" of secular opinion regarding the chronology of the Near East, with which Thiele’s dovetails.

 Nebuchadnezzar II - Conservapedia
This dispute arises from the same source as does the ongoing Biblical chronology dispute between the opposing followers of James Ussher and Edwin R. Thiele.
But if, as seems likely, Thiele interpreted "first year of Nebuchadnezzar" as the year that Nebuchadnezzar reigned alone, then he could be forgiven for surmising that a key intersection of Nebuchadnezzar's career with the history of the Southern Kingdom occurred in 605 BC, which was in fact the year that Nabopolassar died.
Beginning in 1979, Saddam Hussein, the long-time dictator of the Republic of Iraq, began to propagate the notion that he was a direct lineal descendant of Nebuchadnezzar.

We have taken into consideration the dates arrived at by scholars, such as Thiele; we have taken into account the 3 year error in our present calendar- see article in this newsletter.
Edwin R. Thiele, in his book "THE MYSTERIOUS NUMBERS OF THE HEBREW KINGS" gives a most thorough evidence of the accuracy of this date by Babylonian records which can be astronomically verified.

The reference used by Finegan, Thiele and Faulstich is Daniel David Luckenbill, Ancient Records of Assyria and Babylonia, Vol.
The years 721 and 722 BC are often given, but both Thiele and Faulstich argue strongly that the reconciliation with the newly found ancient records demands that 723 BC is correct (Thiele, in his preface to his most recent third edition, p.

The underlying biblical chronology is based on the work of Edwin R. Thiele, whose book The Mysterious Numbers of the Hebrew Kings (Chicago: University of Chicago Press, 1951) is regarded by biblical chronologists as foundational for conservative understanding of biblical history.
The reasoning applied follows that of Edwin R. Thiele, and is as follows: 1 Kings 6:1 states that the fourth year of Solomon's reign was 480 years after the Exodus.
This era is one of the least-understood, and the charts simply follow Thiele's interpretation, which seems a reasonable representation of the biblical data.

These final dates assume that the Bible is correct in some disputed texts involving the duration of the reign of Hezekiah and differ from Thiele who takes an opposing view.
