Judge Edwin Waller (November 4, 1800 – January 3, 1881) was an entrepreneur, signer of the Texas Declaration of Independence, the first mayor of Austin, Texas, and the designer of its downtown grid plan.
A new county formed from parts of Austin County and neighboring Grimes County was renamed Waller County in his honor in 1873.
In 1861 Waller represented Austin County at the Texas secession convention.

Waller was elected on February 1, 1836, as a delegate from Brazoria to the Convention of 1836, which met at Washington-on-the-Brazos and adopted the Texas Declaration of Independence.
In 1861 Waller was elected to represent Austin County at the Secession Convention.

Waller studied classical piano and organ before apprenticing himself to legendary Harlem stride pianist James P. Johnson.
Johnson introduced Waller to the world of rent parties (a party with a piano player, designed to help pay the rent by charging the guests), and soon he developed a performing career.
Waller also made a successful tour of the British Isles in the late 1930's, and appeared in one of the earliest BBC Television broadcasts.
