Efrat's seven hilltops are named for the biblical seven species grown in the Land of Israel –; Rimon, Te’ena, Gefen, Dekel, Zayit, Dagan, and Tamar.

Arutz Sheva - Israel National News
Efrat was founded 25 years ago precisely to reach out to these women and offer them their first choice by providing financial and social support.
Efrat provides these women with a monthly check to the grocery store of their choice for a year, matches each woman up with an Efrat volunteer (there are 2,800 Efrat volunteers from Metula to Eilat) and provides free baby equipment, including a crib, stroller, bathtub, blankets, clothes and diapers.
Efrat has found that it only takes about $1,000 in support per case to tip the scales for thousands of poor pregnant women to decide in favor of bringing their babies to term.

About Efrat   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-08)
The neighbourhoods of Efrat are named after the seven species for which the Land of Israel was famous in biblical times, as it is stated in the Torah: "ארץ חיטה ושעורה וגפן ותאנה ורימון ארץ זית שמן ודבש".
Efrat's great pride is its educational system, which is considered to be one of the best in the country.
Efrat provides its inhabitants with all the services of a modern town: there are two shopping centers, each with a supermarket and different shops, there is a medical center, a library, a sports hall, a community center, several parks and playgrounds, and even an Automated Teller Machine (ATM).

 Socialist Viewpoint
Efrat is correct to say, “The most urgent task facing the Palestinian people is to build an alternative leadership which will fight the Occupation on a new and different basis.” We will vote for that statement with both hands.
Efrat has devoted many paragraphs to Hamas, Islamic Jihad a split of Fatah, a split of The Tanzim, the notoriety of Barghouti, etc. I do not see why none of these meet his definition of “a serious attempt at alternative leadership.” He makes much of their mistakes and little of their future.

Shoppers strolling through the supermarket in Efrat expressed identical feelings to Levy's, young and old alike articulating the very same sentiments: The plan is unrealistic, Beilin is a nobody, he has no legitimacy, he was given no mandate to negotiate with anyone, he was not even elected to the Knesset in the most recent elections.
Because of that history, all the settlements within the Etzion bloc — known as the southern gateway to Jerusalem, which is 20 minutes to the north — were always considered part of the Israeli consensus as land that would be retained in any agreement.
Most people in Efrat prefer to be within the fence, as a signal to all that it is a permanent part of Israel, as well as for security concerns.
